Everyone in America has heard of Lego and probably Playmobil, but I wonder how many Americans realize that these toys are, apparently, 100% produced in Europe, specifically Denmark and Germany (though Malta is mentioned).
These toy makers also, apparently, have no plans to ship manufacturing to China. While they concede that Chinese toy makers can produce quality toys, there are issues with maintaining that level of quality, over time.
Another interesting comment: “If everything is produced in China, who in Germany will be left to afford high-value toys?” That is a good question, maybe one that could be asked here in the United States.
How much of manufacturing these toys actually needs to be done in China? I will concede that constructing a plastic block is probably not as technical as constructing a Transformer, but how much of that Transformer process requires human intervention versus automation?
By God, we could do without all that tape and twisty-ties, in my opinion.
